Editing and Proofreading

Mid Year Madness…

It’s just ticked over to July 1st and midyear is officially upon us.

School holidays for 2 weeks for those of us in Australia and I believe elsewhere in the world are having mid year breaks too. We’ll be back to the mundane routine soon, so better make the most of the lack of need to run around like a headless chicken. Enjoy time off. Enjoy the ruckus of a full house during the day. Enjoy being asked every 5 mins for food or a new movie on TV. Just enjoy.

Find a project to keep them busy. Give them a book to read or a notepad to write on. An easle set up with paint and paper to test the creative waters. Anything to give you the time to keep editing! (yes, I know, it seems impossible, but I’m willing to try conquering the impossible!)

I’ll let you know in 2 weeks how I did… if my sanity is still intact.

Smell the roses!

It’s so much fun to find a new website and let your creativity roam. Thanks to one of my Facebook friends, I’ve discovered the world of making your own banners! What a buzz to be able to put a personal touch to something normally so mundane.

I’ve been wondering for a while how people are making these ultra cool banners for things like New Releases and Cover Reveals and really wanted a collection of banners to be able to brighten up the other blog. Well, I’ve done it. The Author Lowdown, Books Under Review and all the profiles of contributors now have their very own banner.

In the midst of reading to review and awaiting the next new job to edit, not to mention the daily grind to keep family and other work running smoothly (after school activites and the dreaded question “What’s for dinner, Mum?), it’s nice to step outside the working sphere and have a bit of fun – even if that fun did keep me up way too late! Life is for living and if we don’t step back every now and then to give ourselves a break, then we can’t enjoy the fruits of our labour.

So, step back, take a break and enjoy what’s going on in your life, no matter what’s going on.

Breathe deeply. Stand in moon beams. Stop and smell that beautiful rose garden – not just one, but all of them! Write a bad poem. Sing a song. Spin until you’re dizzy and want to vomit. Okay, maybe too far, but at least spin until you fall over! Take the much needed break from your day and just enjoy. Make some fun stuff to stick on websites. Tickle your kids until they’re giggling hysterically! Then, when you go back to the daily grind, you have something sweet to remember in the not-so-relaxing times.

With that said, I’m back off to work! A review read followed by a review/edit then the next beta/edit. That said, I’m going back to the latest review read that’s due tomorrow, then onto the next review/edit before the next job arrives in my inbox. Phew! Glad I took a moment to have some fun 🙂

Oh, and raiding the fridge for any chocolate, because it seems that writing/editing go hand in hand with chocolate.

Update

I’ve just had some fun updating the information on the books I’ve been part of in 2013. I’ve now got a new tab/page above with all the books I’ve Copy Edited/Beta read/Edited/Proofread and their fabulous covers!

So, at an easy glance, you can see what I’ve been doing. The authors names are also links to their websites which mostly have purchase links for the books in your favourite format. I figure I could link you straight to Amazon or Smashwords, but not everyone wants to go there, and the author sites have a great variety of purchase options. Plus, you can check out what they’ve been up to while you’re there!

I’m starting a new beta-read this weekend, so I’ll be busy doing that for a bit! As well as helping with some other bits and pieces.

Enjoy the rest of January!

Reviews and Interviews

I’ve collaborated with some new friends to do book reviews, author interviews, articles and opinions. If you’d like to check out some fresh voices and views, have a peek at The Picky Bitches page.

I’m looking for authors to interview there too, so if you’d like to be interviewed or you want to read what your favourite author has to say (providing I can talk them into it!! Miracles not promised), then fill out the form below and I’ll see what I can do. Authors – I’ll email you the questions and we’ll go from there!

This is a little something on the side to have some fun with in addition to my editing.

Happy New Year!

I’d like to wish everyone around the world a very Happy New Year!

Here’s to wishing you a prosperous and eventful 2014 – with the eventful part being filled with positive things! I’m starting my 2014 by editing blog posts for The Guilty Kitty … and cleaning up the mess in my girls’ bedroom! Yay for kids home for a month on holidays. I can’t wait to see what they come up with for the next 4 weeks …

Enjoy. Be safe. Happy writing.

The Picky Bitch

Welcome!

Let me introduce myself.

My name is Amanda (a.k.a. ‘The Picky Bitch’) – Freelance Copy Editor, Proofreader and Beta-reader.
I love to edit romance of all sorts, beta read and brainstorm with authors and lend a helping hand wherever i can.  I earned my moniker by going to town on a manuscript and having the author contact me saying, “Wow, I really seem to have an aversion to commas!” My reply was that I was just a bit picky … and shortly after that came the name!

I am as thorough in my work as I possibly can be, even if it means driving my authors just a bit nuts. Which I do frequently! Especially when their manuscript resembles a rainbow with my markings and comments. Is it wrong that I get a small kick out of being annoying? Nah! Just keeps everyone on their toes 🙂

If you want to give my editing skills a test run, drop me a line and say G’day!
